  • April Electronics Recycling Is always a huge success!  Over 4 years, Homer has recycled 54,135 pounds of electronic waste and this year it is estimated that we probably collected close to 21,000 lbs!  Check out this video to learn more.

  • Recycle your used plastic yogurt containers at the Homer Food Pantry.  They can use then use them for food distribution.  Stop by the Methodist Church on Mondays or call 235-1968.

  • We have second-hand locations where you can donate your unwanted goods; the Salvation Army Store (on Pioneer across from Captains Coffee) and Pick & Pay (open Saturdays from 10-2 by the Catholic Church).  Also consider the consignment stores; and The Fringe, (down on Bunnell Street below the Art Gallery, call before you bring stuff in 235-4999)  At the Fringe you can choose to get some cash for your items or designate a non-profit to which you would like your share to go.

HOMER FACT:

Homer is filling up its landfill.  Soon we will have the added expense of trucking our waste up to Soldotna.  We need to look at the amount of garbage produced on the Peninsula and become aware of how much we throw out.  We need to change some of our habits of buying and using things.

Environmentally-aware consumers are producing less waste by practicing the “3 Rs:” Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. They are buying products that are less toxic and contain less packaging, using reusable containers and other reusable items, maintaining and repairing products, participating in recycling programs, and buying products made from recycled materials.
